If you think a wedding ring can only be worn on the ring finger of the left hand, you will be surprised to find out which finger some countries wear their wedding ring. The wedding ring in Europe
In most countries, people wear their wedding ring on the ring finger because this finger symbolizes the ultimate union. Yet, according to religions, customs and traditions, the hand that receives the ring can vary from one country to another.
For example, we know that in Europe, people can wear their wedding ring on the right hand and on the left hand. In France, England and Portugal, the left ring finger receives the wedding ring while in Germany, Norway and Spain, married people wear it on the right ring finger.

Why giving an engagement ring?
In France, it is traditional for the person who proposes to give a first ring that we call an engagement ring before passing the wedding ring to the left ring finger of their new spouse on the D-day. In most countries where this tradition exists, an engagement ring is the promise of a future commitment that will comme true afterwards at the wedding.
That’s why giving an engagement ring is the first step we take to tell the person we live with that we want to spend the rest of our life with them. By the way, iving an engagement ring can be stressful because that’s when we propose.
Several years can pass before the wedding takes place because some people need time becore being totally sure they want to commit with someone for life.
